Note: Due to questions and points brought up during the presentation regarding other forms of Fireplay I am adding a follow up page on this subject. Click here for the article.
Fire Play - SGM - 2/8/04
Sex_GrandMaster If Y/you're all settled in I will start
Sex_GrandMaster: smiles to the group
Sex_GrandMaster First let Me say it is a pleasure to see so many of Y/you here, I didn't know that there were so many firebugs in the lifestyle
Sex_GrandMaster: chuckles
Sex_GrandMaster To start with it should be recognized that many of the activities W/we participate in are classified as edge play and some are downright dangerous,
Fire play is dangerous on several counts and recognizing that I am going to first point out the safety precautions that you will need to take. Before you begin fire play you should have these items on hand.
A fire Extinguisher, a bowl or bucket of water, and damp towels. Accidents do happen and if you're not prepared it can be disastrous.
SirDdr: listens
Sex_GrandMaster in addition to those you should have a complete first aid kit with burn ointments, of course We don't intend on burning the subject, but again accidents can happen .....
In other words be aware of the risks involved and be prepared for them. So what is Fire Play exactly? The short answer is setting the subject on fire
Sex_GrandMaster: chuckles
Sex_GrandMaster Hopefully it is controlled of course. The items you will use to do this are made up of 70% rubbing alcohol, a lighter, cotton swabs and damp cloths,
There are two types of Fire Play I will discuss tonight, one is the direct application and the other is use of an item I call the Fire Wand.
To start with the subject should be laying on a table or some other sturdy device.
packins_vixen: perks up
Sex_GrandMaster A damp towel should be wrapped around their head covering the hair. Trust Me there is nothing worse than the smell of burning hair. The reason for lying on a table is quite simple,
fire travels up, if the subject is standing then there is more danger of setting a head of hair on fire, that will quickly end your scene.
SirDdr: . o O ( and maybe your freedom )
Sex_GrandMaster That's not the recommended way of ending the scene by the way. LOL
Sex_GrandMaster For direct application you will need some tongs and cotton swabs, and a bowl to contain the rubbing alcohol. Here is a link with pictures of direct application.
Fireplay pictures
SirDdr: smiles...good photo set
Sex_GrandMaster In these pictures you will notice the subject is sitting and also laying down, however in all cases the hair is put up out of the way of danger.
The technique for direct application is to dip the cotton ball in the alcohol and then coat an area of the subjects skin, immediately lighting the alcohol and then extinguishing the burn with a small damp hand towel or your hand.
SirDdr: raises His hand
Sex_GrandMaster The amount of alcohol will determine how long the burn lasts, the ideal amount is enough for it to light a flame up but not continue burning. By the way this takes a little experimenting at
first as each person's skin will make some small differences.
Sex_GrandMaster Yes Ddr?
SirDdr: sees You already answered one point....I was going to ask about how "soaked" the swab should be, and what about runs of alcohol going down and under the sub (or if on the floor, into the carpet)
and also if One should allow the alcohol to completely burn off?
Sex_GrandMaster ok first you should never have enough applied for it to run at all
SirDdr: nods
Sex_GrandMaster If the subject is sitting of course there will be some running downwards, I think in one of the pictures it shows an assistant with a towel ready to stop the flow from going too far down the back,
if you have applied a very light coat of alcohol then it will rapidly burn off, however if the burn appears to be lasting more than a second or two it needs to be extinguished by hand or damp towel, otherwise it will burn the skin and cause damage.
SirDdr: thanks for those clarifications
Sex_GrandMaster I suggest that you place some alcohol on your own palm and light it then see how long it takes before it becomes real uncomfortable, it will only be about 2 - 3 seconds, so that is your maximum time frame of allowing the burn to continue,
regardless of the amount of alcohol on the body.
Sex_GrandMaster any other questions at this point?
Sex_GrandMaster: looks around
packins_vixen: raises her hand
Sex_GrandMaster vixen?
packins_vixen Are there any specific chemicals/products you should avoid using on your skin other than those with alcohol in them Sir?
SirDdr: . o O ( napalm is probably a bad idea )
packins_vixen: laughs@Sir Ddr and nodsnodsnods
Sex_GrandMaster Actually yes vixen, the subject should not use any perfumes or ointments that contain petroleum additives prior to a fire play scene.
packins_vixen: nods and writes down petroleum
Sex_GrandMaster Even if it has dried on the skin it will add to the burn time of the alcohol, in other words anything that can burn on it's own shouldn't be applied to the subjects body prior to Fire Play.
packins_vixen Thank you Sir
Sex_GrandMaster Now if you are artistic, you can draw designs or pictures on the skin and set them to flame, I have seen some very impressive scenes with this done, of course the Dom/me has had a lot of practice at it before attempting it in public I'm sure.
Toshs_lass: . o O ( hate to see what His grass at home looks like )
Sex_GrandMaster The preferred ignition device is either a fireplace lighter or regular lighter, don't try it with matches.
Are there any questions on the direct application method?
The next method is a fairly new technique to Me and I call it the Fire Wand.
SirDdr: nods and smiles...thinking that is the one I was taught
SGMs_annie: yumsss and wiggles in my spot
Sex_GrandMaster This link shows pictures of the Fire Wand or Torch, however I don't have pictures of a Fire Play scene using it at this time.
http://greathallofbdsm.com/library/Fireplay/FireWand/index.html
Sex_GrandMaster The technique of using the Fire Wand differs in that the wands are allowed to soak in the rubbing alcohol then lit and passed over the flesh, generally leaving a short trail of alcohol burning which needs to be extinguished by hand.
the wand can be held directly on the skin or above it slightly, however it must be kept moving at all times. You can also use direct application and the fire wand together, but more care is required in keeping the burn times short, do not use alcohol with more than a 70% alcohol content.
In fact when starting out you might want to look for 60% alcohol as a safety factor, the difference is in how long and how hot it will burn.
Sex_GrandMaster are there any questions on this technique?
SirDdr: just don't want to make sub flambé
Cassysweet I use a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol, leave a thin trail along the skin then light it with a wand. I've had great success with this method so that the alcohol doesn't pool anywhere and burn too long. Makes a great visual.
SirDdr: nods in full agreement with Cassysweet
Sex_GrandMaster Yes that is the direct method as described at the beginning cassy *S*
Cassysweet I apologize for my tardy entry...
Sex_GrandMaster And a Violet Wand can be used for lighting the alcohol, although I didn't mention it at the start, and thank you for reminding Me of that technique Cassy. *S*
SirDdr: oh, very interesting *s*
SirDdr: raises His hand
Cassysweet I love to use my wand to light the alcohol...
Sex_GrandMaster yes Ddr?
SirDdr Assuming that We have not had any "incidents" what is standard aftercare for the sub who has experienced fire play?
Sex_GrandMaster: . o O ( would you believe a good rub down with alcohol? )
Sex_GrandMaster: laughs
emma: chuckles
SirDdr: would believe anything You say *lol*
Cassysweet I have a small tube of that sunburn aloe... the green cooling type. I rub it over the area which has been fired and it's very soothing.
SirDdr: smiles...... ty, Cassysweet
Cassysweet major content is alcohol... :)
Sex_GrandMaster Essentially it is the same as any other scene, with the exception of perhaps something such as cassie suggests.
SirDdr: nods....... that was more or less what I was asking...skin care.
Garen what about fire floggers what are they made out of?
Cassysweet the worst results I've ever experienced with a sub were a mild "sunburn" effect and once... a little singed underarm hair once :(
Sex_GrandMaster a prolonged scene could reduce the level of liquid in the skin
Cassysweet I agree with SGM, I absolutely encourage drinking lots of water afterwards
Sex_GrandMaster I'm sorry Garen I don't understand the question .... there aren't any floggers used .... did You mean the Fire Wand?
Garen I guess it is a different kind of fire play
SirDdr: can comment on Fire Floggers
Garen other than what you are talking about
Sex_GrandMaster well in that case please do Ddr.
SirDdr What I know of them, Garen, is that they are the surest way for a Dom to burn hell out Him/Herself trying to learn to use them
SirDdr I believe they are more for show, and showing off. Striking with them is something I have never seen or heard talked about. For those who might not know, they have absorbent cotton falls that are alcohol soaked and lit.
Garen no, doe has played with them
SirDdr: really?
Garen yes, she says she likes it
SirDdr: smiles. excellent, as long as someone is there with the wet towels Garen.
Garen yes, also, have you ever heard of flash?
packins_vixen: raises her hand
Sex_GrandMaster yes vixen?
SirDdr: is not sure what Flash is
Cassysweet May I speak a little about flash?
doeyn flash is .....looks like spider webs
packins_vixen does the fire on the floggers get put out as they are used by the blows?
doeyn its fun, no vixen you have to put them out in water
Sex_GrandMaster: looks to Garen or doe to answer that question
doeyn or use a special sheet of material to do it,
Garen they stay burning
packins_vixen ok thanks
Sex_GrandMaster Garen did You have some input on Flash or should I give the floor to Cassy?
Garen doe knows also
doeyn flash is what magicians use
Sex_GrandMaster: nods
doeyn its a substance that is like spider webish and you pull it apart and it burns very very fast ...flash!!!!!!!!!
WS_perfectangel: raises her hand
Garen but you can let cassy have the floor
Sex_GrandMaster Cassy? I will get to you in a second angel, please hold your question *S*
Cassysweet I was only going to say that flash is a cotton substance that burns very quickly... I use it mostly for cupping
Sex_GrandMaster: nods
Cassysweet place a small amount in a small tinfoil boat light it and place a glass over it... when the flame goes out the skin raises under the glass and is cupped
SirDdr: smiles at that
Sex_GrandMaster actually it is basically composed of the same elements as gunpowder, thereby creating the accelerated rate of burning
packins_vixen: raises her hand
Sex_GrandMaster angel your question?
doeyn smiles to Garen
WS_perfectangel never mind...has seen flash paper used in play...like M Cassey said...for cupping
WS_perfectangel: smiles
Sex_GrandMaster: nods to angel
Sex_GrandMaster vixen?
packins_vixen I need clarification about the boat SGM Sir ....Cassy ...you set it on the skin then put the cup over it?
Sex_GrandMaster By the way alcohol can also be used for cupping, but that is a subject for another presentation
Cassysweet yes vixen... I make my own little boat out of tinfoil and set it on an area of skin that is fleshy
Cassysweet then set the glass over the top after the flash is lit
packins_vixen: . o O ( everywhere on me )
Cassysweet I like buttocks and bellies :)
Sex_GrandMaster: chuckles
Cassysweet but it works on backs too
packins_vixen understands now thank you
doeyn and breasts
doeyn smiles
doeyn and ..well other places too
doeyn giggles
Sex_GrandMaster The fact that it has an extremely fast burning rate means that the tinfoil will not get hot enough to burn the flesh
Garen lol
SGMs_annie: . o O ( interesting )
Sex_GrandMaster Alright are there any other questions at this point?
SNHs_tender.morsel none here
packins_vixen: . o O ( now that's flash only not alcohol right )
Garen spray bottle works very well also just spray a little in the cup turn the cup upside down letting the excess run out and lite it and quickly placing it over what you want cupped
doeyn Kevlar is the material used for the floggers but does not burn
Toshs_lass: . o O ( bulletproof floggers )
Sex_GrandMaster Well that concludes My part of the presentation, thank Y/you all for coming and please feel free to stay and socialize.
